criticism

The e-zine Laut.de rated Jeffery with five out of a possible five points. From the point of view of the editor Philipp Kopka, the “ extravagant cover represents the greatest strengths of Young Thugs ” mixtape. By being freed from “ any musical corset ”, “ his unmistakable eye for compositions beyond the norm, paired with an irresistible style, comes into its own even better. "Young Thug's texts resemble the" abstract expressionism of a Jackson Pollock painting. “This leads to the recurring allegations that every rapper is able, analogous to a child, who“ can splash blobs of paint on a canvas and sell it as art ”, with“ throwing unrelated chains of associations around them. “However, only Thug has the courage to consistently implement this style. Furthermore, the voice used in the songs to “ howl, croak, mumble, gasp ” is characterized as the “most powerful weapon ”.

Leaderboard

In the list of the best “Hip Hop Albums of the Year” 2016 by Laut.de, Jeffery was placed 11th. Young Thug wraps the mixtape " in a pop garment that is neither nervous nor cheeky, instead mutating the tape into an irresistible summer album 2016. " Thug poses " on the cover in a dress " and name " the individual songs after his role models ", with which he " lives up to his reputation as a convention breaker on his best work so far ".
