Jeffrey Mumford

Jeffrey Mumford (* 1955 in Washington, DC ) is an American composer and music teacher.

Mumford studied at the University of California, Irvine (BA, 1977) and the University of California, San Diego (MA, 1981) and was a student of Elliott Carter and Lawrence Moss . He has taught at the Washington Conservatory of Music , was Artist in Residence at Bowling Green State University , Professor of Composition and Composer in Residence at the Conservatory of Oberlin College, and is Distinguished Professor at Lorain County Community College in Northern Ohio.

His extensive compositional work is performed by leading orchestras, ensembles and soloists in the USA and abroad, and he has received composition commissions from the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia , the San Antonio Symphony , the Washington Performing Arts , the Fulcrum Point New Music Project , the Icelandic one Duo Harpverk , the Sphinx Consortium , the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra , the Argento Chamber Ensemble , the Haydn Trio Eisenstadt, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , and musicians such as Ole Bohn , Wendy Richman , Sharan Levental , Amy Dissanayake and Mariel Roberts . Among other awards, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship , seven Meet-the-Composer Awards as well as the Foundation Grant , the Standard Panel Award and the Aaron Copland Scholarship Award from ASCAP .
