Yes and no

Jein (more rarely: "jain") is a crossword that is occasionally and often used jokingly in German-speaking countries . It is a suitcase word made up of the words yes and no and has the meaning “yes and no”, whereby “yes and no” is rarely used in the sense of “maybe”. “Yes and no” is mostly used when a question cannot be answered clearly or even at the same time with “Yes” and “No”, or when you want to answer a question with reservations , ie “Yes, but…” or “No, but ... ". The answer “yes and no” is often followed by an explanation that explains the pros and cons.

Question: "Have you been to Bremen before ?"
Answer: “Yes and no. I've been there before, but only drove through it. I haven't actually seen the city. "
