Jelena Black

Jelena Andrejewna Schwarz ( Russian Елена Андреевна Шварц ; born May 17, 1948 in Leningrad ; † March 11, 2010 there ) was a Russian poet, essayist and translator.

Life

Her first poems appeared in the Soviet Union only underground as samizdat , in the West only in magazines, the first book by Jelena Schwarz Tanzujuschy David (German "The dancing David") was published in 1985 in New York. In 1987 her Stichi ("Poems") appeared in Munich and Paris. Only after perestroika were her books allowed to appear in the Soviet Union. In 1989, Storony swjeta (“ Cardinal Points ”) was the first to appear in her homeland, and the book was sold out on the day of publication.

German published so far: A cold fire burns along the bones (1997) and Das Blumentier (1999).
