Localization of Lower Austria in Austria

The Jelinekwarte or Dr. Heinrich Jelinekwarte is a 12.3 meter high observation tower on Rudolfshöhe ( 524  m ) in the municipality of Scheibbs in Lower Austria .

history

The wooden control room was built in 1953 by the Scheibbs Transport and Improvement Association on the Rudolfshöhe above Scheibbs and allows a beautiful view north of the city of Scheibbs and, if the visibility is good, to the Danube and the Waldviertel. The control room was named after Heinrich Jelinek (1884–1964), notary and local history researcher. The wooden control room with a total height of 12.3 meters was completely renovated in 2007.

To person

The son of a lawyer, Heinrich Jelinek, who originally came from a Moravian family, went down in the history of the town of Scheibbs as a recognized local researcher. He was the first to recognize the cultural-historical significance of the Scheibbs shooting targets, recorded each one in words and pictures, deciphered and interpreted the often difficult symbolism and thus laid the foundation for the knowledge that is now certain about one of the largest target collections in German-speaking countries. With the establishment of the Dr.-Heinrich-Jelinek-Warte at the Burgerhof above the city, the city of Scheibbs gave him a visible sign of thanks while still alive.

Surroundings

It is located in the vicinity of Scheibbs' second, better-known observation point, the stone Urlingerwarte on Blassenstein , which is visible from afar and a Scheibbs landmark.

Between the bricked Urlingerwarte and the wooden Jelinekwarte there was the Greinberg or Burgerhofwarte on the Greinberg, which was built in 1892 and existed until around 1935. Today only the foundations can be seen from the control room.
