Localization of Lower Austria in Austria

The Urlingerwarte is a 16 meter high observation tower on the Blassenstein ( 844  m ) in the municipality of Scheibbs in Lower Austria .

Wait

Originally there was a wooden control room at Blassenstein. The lookout named after the creator of the first compilation of the mountain heights of the entire monarchy, Pastor Paul Urlinger , was built by the Scheibbs section of the Ö.TC and opened on August 9, 1903. It was built in the style of historicism and originally had an unplastered facade.

When the weather is clear, you can see almost the entire Mostviertel from the plateau of the Warte , up to Linz , St. Florian in Upper Austria and the Waldviertel , although the view to the north is obstructed by the staircase. To the south, the view extends from Vienna's local mountains over the Ötscher, which dominates the panorama, to the Dead Mountains , the Sengsen Mountains and the Traunstein .

Two panels with panorama drawings by Paul Urlinger from 1862 are embedded in the balustrade of the control room.

As part of a general renovation in 2014, a photovoltaic system financed by the municipality was installed at the control room, which generates the electricity for the nighttime lighting.

Access

The control room is easily accessible by car on a signposted road that begins east of the old town of Scheibbs, only the last 500 meters have to be covered on foot on a moderately steep path. The control room is freely accessible and open between April and October.

Surroundings

Between the bricked Urlingerwarte and the wooden Jelinekwarte there was the Greinberg or Burgerhofwarte on the Greinberg, which was built in 1892 and existed until around 1935. Today only the foundations can be seen from the control room.
