Paul Urlinger always had several barometers with him on excursions and carried out barometric altitude measurements at 20,000 measuring points by comparing the air pressure with the air pressure of a known location ( altitude fixed point ). In this way he created the first compilation of the mountain heights of the entire monarchy and published the results of his measurements from “better known mountains and places” in a 459-page work.
