Jelka Weber

Jelka Weber (born May 16, 1971 in Achern ) is a German flautist . She has been a member of the Berlin Philharmonic since April 1, 1997 .

Life

Weber received her first flute lessons from Joseph Paschek at the age of eight and successfully took part in the national competition Jugend musiziert as a teenager . She received her further training at the Musikhochschule in Munich with Hermann Klemeyer . In 1994 she received a two-year scholarship from the orchestra academy of the Berlin Philharmonic with flutist Andreas Blau .

After a position as principal flutist with the Magdeburg Philharmonic in 1996, she switched to the Berlin Philharmonic in 1997, where she was the first female flutist to be permanently employed. She is also a member of the “Berliner Philharmonikerinnen” ensemble, together with Marlene Ito (violin), Julia Gartemann (viola), Yumino Weber (violoncello) and Cordelia Höfer (piano) as well as the “14 Berliner Flutisten”. She performed as a soloist both in the Berlin Philharmonic and z. B. also at The Rest is Noise Festival in the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. She played in 2004 the premiere of the work The Longings of Sidney Corbett ; together with Marie Pierre Langlamet (harp), Stanley Dodds (violin), Jean-Claude Velin (viola) and Matias de Oliveira Pinto (violoncello).
