(James) Jem Mace (born April 8, 1831 in Beeston , Norfolk , † November 30, 1910 in Jarrow , Tyne and Wear ) was a British boxer of the bare knuckle era.

In 1855 he started boxing. In 1861 he knocked out Sam Hurst, generally considered a champion and weighing about 100 pounds more, in the eighth round. He also defeated Tom King in a famous fight, but lost to him in a rematch. King refused a third fight. Eventually he went to Australia and worked as a coach. At the end of his life he returned to his homeland, where he died.

In 1990 Mace was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
