Jenő Ádám

Jenő Ádám (born December 12, 1896 in Szigetszentmiklós , † May 15, 1982 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian composer , music teacher , conductor and folk song researcher .

life and work

From 1921 to 1925 Ádám studied composition with Zoltán Kodály at the Music Academy in Budapest and in 1935 conducting with Felix Weingartner in Basel.

In 1929 he was appointed professor at the Budapest Music Academy. Since 1935 he has worked in close cooperation with Kodály in Hungary to develop and implement a reform of music teaching. In addition, he published a number of textbooks with this. This made him a co-founder of the Hungarian music education system.

In 1957 Ádám received the Kossuth Prize .
