Life

Even as a child, a pastor's daughter was enthusiastic about the performances of the German classics, and it was the Schiller's female roles that she raved about. Immediately after her confirmation , she decided to become an actress. She took lessons from the Weimar court actress Louise Hettstedt (a granddaughter of the Mannheimer Beil, who portrayed the "Swiss" in the first "Räuber" performance). After completing her training, she took on her first engagement in Sondershausen in 1874, followed by Magdeburg (1875 to 1876) and Strasbourg (1876 to 1878). In 1878 she received a call to Weimar and in 1886 she was committed there for life. In 1893 the artist left the Weimar stage to marry the court music director Aloys Obrist . Occasionally a guest performance she was made an honorary member of the court theater. Her spirited, true-to-nature play, her beautifully trained manner of speaking were duly appreciated not only in Weimar, but also at the first stages in Germany, Russia and Switzerland.

After her marriage she devoted herself to women's issues and was the editor of the yearbook for the German women's world in 1899.
