Jenny Castle Thalwil

The Jenny Castle in Thalwil is a late classicist building and, together with the utility building, forms an ensemble that was typical for villa complexes of the 19th century .

history

The Jenny Castle was built between 1877 and 1878 by the industrialist and silk manufacturer Fritz Schwarzenbach-Suter. It was designed by Jakob Staub (1837–1892) and Johann Rudolf Hofmann-Schmid. The Glarus merchant Conrad Jenny Blumer (1848–1928), married to the Glarus patrician Albertina Jenny, bought the building from Schwarzenbach's heirs in 1893. The house, which was popularly known as the castle earlier , was now called the "Jenny Castle".

The castle was declared a protected property and the municipality of Thalwil acquired it in 1957, and made extensive renovations in 1986–1993 and 2010.

The decorative paintings in the stairwell are by Eugen Ott (1850–1916). The economic building belonging to the ensemble is assigned to the Swiss wood style and clearly stands out from the manor house. The Jenny coat of arms adorns the master bedroom, and the Caflisch coat of arms on the rich wallpaper.

Jenny family

Some personalities grew up at the castle of Conrad and Albertina Jenny-Jenny. Mention should be made of her daughter and psychiatrist Tina Keller Jenny who worked with CG Jung and was married to the theologian and friend of Sigmund Freud , Adolf Keller . Conrad's daughter Elisabeth Alice Lachenal Jenny was married to the politician and founder of the Orchester de la Suisse Romande , Paul Lachenal (1884–1955). Son Kaspar Konrad Jenny-Caflisch (1888–1944), was the Swiss envoy to Buenos Aires and Hans Jenny-Kappers (1894–1942) was the publisher of the Swiss art guide, the two brothers took over the property in 1928. Mother Albertina Jenny-Jenny organized Concerts in her music hall with well-known composers and pianists such as Clara Laquai and also with her son Hans Jenny on the cello.
