Jenny Karl

Jenny Karl (born August 6, 1978 ) is a former German judoka . In 2004 she was European Champion, and in 2003 she was third at the European Championship.

Athletic career

In 1996 she was fifth in the Junior World Championships in the weight class up to 66 kilograms. Six weeks later, she reached the final of the European Junior Championships, where she lost to Edith Bosch from the Netherlands .

From 1999 Jenny Karl fought in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 78 kilograms. At the beginning of 1999 she won the World Cup tournament in Leonding. In October of the same year the judoka from TSV Lohr won her first German championship title. At the World Student Championships in 2000, Jenny Karl only lost to the Japanese Naomi Morishima in the final. In 2001 she won her second German championship title.

From 2002 she started for the judo club in Rüsselsheim . In early 2002 she finished third at the Tournoi de Paris , shortly afterwards she won the World Cup tournament in Prague. At the European Championships in Maribor, she lost to the Italian Lucia Morico in the semi-finals and then lost the battle for bronze against Anastasiia Matrosova from Ukraine. In November 2002 she won the German championships and the World Masters tournament. In 2003 she reached the final at the World Cup tournament in Moscow, where she lost to Matrosova. At the European Championships in Düsseldorf she lost to the Spanish Raquel Prieto in the semifinals , and she won the battle for bronze against Barbara Wójcicka from Poland . In 2004 she defeated the Spanish Esther San Miguel in the semifinals of the European Championships in Bucharest , and won the final against Lucia Morico. At the Olympic Games in Athens Uta Kühnen fought for Germany in the light heavyweight division. Jenny Karl won the German championship title at the end of 2004. She won her last championship title in 2006. In 2008 her international career ended.
