Jenny Petra

Jenny Petra (born May 15, 1934 ; † September 28, 2011 ; real name Edith Kaus ) was a German pop singer .

She received her training in the mid-1950s at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in East Berlin . Since she was the first pop singer at the university, she needed a permit from the Central Committee of the SED . Along with Helga Brauer and Bärbel Wachholz, she was one of the most famous pop singers in the GDR in the 1950s and 1960s . She also took part in the musical What do you think of music ?, which was shown on GDR television in 1962 , directed by Wernfried Hübel. In 1963 Jenny Petra had a son and ended her career as a pop singer. Until 1994 she worked at the university as a lecturer for singing, where she trained some well-known GDR singers such as Anett Kölpin .
