Jens Boenigk

Jens Boenigk (* 1970 in Duisburg ) is a German biologist and university professor. He is professor for biodiversity at the University of Duisburg-Essen . Boenigk is primarily concerned with ecological aspects of phycology and biodiversity research . His research focus is on the investigation of eukaryotic algae .

Life

Boenigk studied biology and geology / paleontology at the University of Cologne , where he also received his doctorate in 2000 . In his dissertation he addressed the nutritional behavior of flagellates . Later he worked briefly at the Natural History Museum in London . In 2005 he completed his habilitation and taught at the University of Innsbruck . Since 2011 he has been a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he is head of the department for biodiversity.
