Jens Heise

Jens Heise (* 1949 ) is a German historian of philosophy and Japanologist .

Career

Heise received her doctorate from the University of Hamburg with a work on dream discourses published in 1989 . In Hamburg he was a lecturer in philosophy and Japanese studies, then a private lecturer at the Philosophical Seminar of the Humboldt University in Berlin . Today he works at the Philosophical Seminar of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . Heise dealt intensively with the philosophy of Johann Gottfried Herder , which he examined particularly in connection with his contributions to the philosophy of language and history. In an overall presentation of philosophy in Japan presented jointly with Peter Pörtner , geographical, political and social factors are taken into account and the influences of Chinese Confucianism , Buddhism and European philosophy on thinking in Japan are presented. Heise also dealt with the self-interpretation of the culture of Japan and published an anthology devoted to this topic.
