from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jens Jochen Rassweiler (born March 20, 1955 in Stuttgart ) is a German specialist in urology . His research focuses on radical prostatectomy , laparoscopic cystectomy , laser therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia and the treatment of diseased kidneys and adrenal glands.

Life

Rassweiler began studying medicine in 1975 at the University of Freiburg / Breisgau. After obtaining his license to practice medicine in 1981, he initially worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Pathology at the University of Tübingen under Professor A. Bohle. In 1982 he received his doctorate with his research on capillary embolization: a reliable method for occluding the entire arterial vascular system of the kidney - an alternative to nephrectomy . Immediately after graduation, he worked as an assistant doctor at F. Eisenberger (Stuttgart) and later as senior consultant in the urological clinic at P. Alken in the Mannheim Clinic.

He completed his habilitation in 1991 with further research on benign and malignant kidney diseases and their capillary embolization. Here he discovered the mode of action of the drug Ethibloc and its new uses in urology. Together with Götz Richter, he modified the maize protein Ethibloc in such a way that the entire occlusion of the vascular system of the kidney or kidney tumors could be achieved. This led to the complete death of the organ, which is then broken down by the body.

Since 1994 Rassweiler has been director of the Clinic for Urology and Pediatric Urology at the Klinikum am Gesundbrunnen and teaches as C2 professor for urology at the University Clinic Mannheim . In 1997 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Heidelberg and in 2009 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Medical and Pharmaceutical University of Victor Babes in Timișoara , Romania. Here he teaches and trains colleagues in the use of modern laparoscopic surgical techniques.
