Jens Kleinschmidt

Jens Kleinschmidt (* 1975 ) is a German law scholar and professor at the University of Trier .

Life

From 1993 onwards, Kleinschmidt studied law at the Universities of Cologne , Geneva and Freiburg im Breisgau . In Freiburg he worked from 1997 to 1999 with the first state examination in law as a research assistant at the chair of Rainer Frank . He completed an LL.M. degree at the University of California, Berkeley , with which he obtained the title Master of Laws in 2000 . After his return to Germany he worked as a research assistant for Reinhard Zimmermann at the University of Regensburg . With Zimmermann, he moved to the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg in 2002 . From 2002 to 2004 Kleinschmidt did his legal clerkship at the Hamburg Higher Regional Court and passed the second state examination. In 2003 he completed his doctorate under Zimmermann. iur. from. This work was awarded the Otto Hahn Medal in 2004.

From 2005 to 2013, Kleinschmidt was a speaker at the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg. During this time he was also an editorial assistant at the journal for European private law , lecturer at the Bucerius Law School . In 2012 he completed his habilitation in Hamburg and received the venia legendi from the Bucerius Law School for the subjects civil law, civil procedural law, international private law, comparative law and European private law. In the winter semester 2012/13 he was a chair at the University of Heidelberg , and in the following summer semester a chair at the University of Halle-Wittenberg . Since the winter semester 2013/14 he has been the full professor of civil law, in particular international private and procedural law, and comparative law at the University of Trier .

Kleinschmidt's research focuses primarily on German and European law of obligations as well as international comparative law of obligations and European and European law of inheritance.
