Jerónimo Costa (painter)
Jerónimo Costa Arata (born March 3, 1880 in Santa Margherita Ligure , † August 31, 1967 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean painter .
Costa came to Chile with his parents as a child. He first took painting lessons from Pedro Lira and then studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes with Fernando Álvarez de Sotomayor . In 1918 he was one of the founders of the Sociedad Nacional de Bellas Artes .
As a student of Sotomayor, Costa is assigned to the Generación del Trece painter group , although he had his own style of painting. He has received numerous prizes and was honored with a retrospective work at the Universidad de Chile in 1961 . The oil painting La Viuda is owned by the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes , while the works El Bote Abandonado and Consiendo are owned by the Universidad de Concepción .
