from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jeremias Eisenmenger (* in Bretten ; † November 27, 1625 in Heilbronn ) was city doctor in Heilbronn from 1579 .

He was the son of a dean from Bretten , studied in Heidelberg , was then a medic in Wimpfen and in the spring of 1579 applied for admission as a medic in Heilbronn, where he was offered a post as a city doctor that same year. His son from his second marriage to Katharina Roth from Ulm, Johann Christoph Eisenmenger the Elder (1592–1663), was born there, who succeeded his father in office after his death. Since the grandson of the same name Johann Christoph Eisenmenger the Younger (1620–1670) also became a city doctor, Jeremias Eisenmenger is considered to be the founder of a Heilbronn city doctor dynasty that served the city for over 90 years.

Eisenmenger has recorded his experiences from his medical work in writing. In 1582 he bequeathed his booklet "if somehow dying you should think of what kind of condom one should use for it, with the attached conclusion" to the city council of Heilbronn. His Diarium medicum , a collection of medical histories, comprised seven volumes, but burned in the Karlsgymnasium in the air raid on December 4, 1944 .
