Jeremy Black (historian)

Jeremy Black (born October 30, 1955 ) is a British modern-day historian and military historian. He was a professor at the University of Exeter until 2020 .

Black studied at Cambridge University (Queen's College) and then went to Oxford University . He was a Lecturer and Professor at the University of Durham from 1980 and Professor at Exeter from 1996 to 2020.

He has been visiting professor at West Point , Texas Christian University, and Stillman College. He is Advisory Fellow of the Barsanti Military History Center at the University of North Texas , Senior Fellow of the Foreign Policy Research Institute, and served on the Council of the Royal Historical Society . In 2000 he became a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for contributions to stamp design .

It deals with British history specifically of the 18th century, diplomacy history and military history. He is the author of over 100 books.

From 1989 to 2005 he was editor of the British Records Association's Archives magazine . He was associate editor of the Journal of Military History , the Journal of the Royal United Services Institute , the International History Review, and History Today .

In 2004 he received The Arthur Goodzeit Book Award and in 2008 the Samuel Eliot Morison Prize .
