Jerry Ricardo Bengtson Bodden (born April 8, 1987 in Santa Rosa de Aguán , Honduras ) is a Honduran national soccer player who is currently under contract with the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer .
Club career
CD Vida
At the age of 17, Jerry Bengtson made his debut for CD Vida in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras , Honduras ' top division . At Vida he was top scorer in the Clausura 2009/10 and the Apertura 2010/11 with twelve goals each.
CD Motagua
For the 2010/11 Clausura Bengtson switched to CD Motagua . There he scored eleven goals in the 18 games of the regular season. In the final round of the Honduran Championship, he contributed a goal in the semifinals against his ex-club Vida. In the two finals against CD Olimpia , Bengtson scored a 2-2 goal in the first leg. In the 3-1 return leg he scored two goals, with which he was able to secure the title of best goalscorer for the third time in a row, as well as becoming champions for the first time.
New England Revolution
On July 5, 2012, the American club New England Revolution announced that it would sign Bengtson with immediate effect. Bengtson played his first game for his new club on July 9, 2012 against New York Red Bulls .
National team career
In April 2010 Bengtson made his debut for the Honduras national team in the game against Venezuela . He has scored five goals in 13 international matches, including three goals in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup . In addition, he scored the decisive goal in the quarter-finals over Costa Rica on penalties .
On May 8, 2014 Bengtson was appointed by coach Luis Fernando Suárez in the selection squad for the 2014 World Cup . In the first game against France (0: 3) Bengtson was on the starting line-up.
