FX Toole (actually Jerry Boyd ; born July 30, 1930 in Long Beach , California , † September 2, 2002 in Torrance , California) was an American boxing coach, cut man, and writer.
Life
Boyd worked in odd jobs for a long time, including an actor, golf caddy, bartender, and bullfighter. Eventually he switched to boxing and worked for more than 20 years as a boxing trainer and cut man (treating boxer's injuries during breaks in combat).
He published a collection of seven short stories from the world of boxing under the title Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner (German 2001 as Champions. Tales from the Ring ). One of them served in 2004 Clint Eastwood as a literary template for his feature film Million Dollar Baby . The novel Pound for Pound was published posthumously in 2006 .
