Jerry Dammers

Jeremy Dammers (born May 22, 1955 in Udagamandalam , Tamil Nadu , India ) is a British musician and songwriter . He was the founder and keyboard player of ska band The Specials from Coventry .

Life

In 1979 he founded the record label 2 Tone Records , which contributed significantly to the ska revival of the early 1980s with the release of the Specials , Madness , The Selecter and The Beat .

He is committed to this day against racism and among other things wrote the song Free Nelson Mandela for the release of the leader of the South African ANC Nelson Mandela . In 1986 he organized the Freedom Beat Festival and in 1988 the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium . With his large-format The Spatial AKA Orchestra , which he has only released the EP Ghost Planet , he has also performed in Paris and Berlin in recent years, playing music “from Ska to Ra ”.
