Freedom Beat was a music festival on June 28, 1986 on London's Clapham Common with 250,000 visitors. The common demand was the implementation of human rights in South Africa and the abolition of apartheid .

It was organized by Jerry Dammers and Dali Tambo (son of Oliver Tambo ). Paul Weller , Neil Young , Maxi Priest , Gil Scott Heron , Hugh Masekela , Sade , Princess , Big Audio Dynamite , Lorna Gee , Billy Bragg , Gary Kemp , Peter Gabriel and Elvis Costello performed, among others .

Representatives of the ANC , SWAPO and the British Anti-Apartheid Movement were also able to give speeches.
