Jerry Tucker

Jerry Tucker (born November 1, 1925 in Chicago , Illinois as Jerome H. Schatz , † November 23, 2016 in Stony Brook , New York ) was an American child actor.

life and career

Jerry Tucker got his start in the film business at the age of five when he recited the poem Gunga Din by heart to a crowd waiting for a boxing match. Hollywood agents discovered him, and he made his film debut alongside Buster Keaton in Sidewalks of New York in 1931 . He was the youngest person who ever at Paramount Pictures under contract was taken. Tucker spent a considerable part of his film career with the little rascals from producer Hal Roach , where he often portrayed the spoiled "rich child" who competed with the main characters such as Spanky or alfalfa. Tucker later recalled: "Whenever Hal Roach wanted a nasty child, he loaned me out from Paramount." Otherwise he often played spoiled or snobbish children, for example in Prosperity (1932) alongside Marie Dressler and Captain January (1936) Shirley Temple .

After more than 60 films by 1941, he retired from the acting business. He later served in World War II and the Korean War. Until his retirement he worked for the Radio Corporation of America . He was married to his wife Myra from 1950 until her death in 2012, they had several children and lived near New York. He died in November 2016 at the age of 91.
