Shirley Ahoy! (Alternative title: Das Sailors-Herzpinkerl , original title: Captain January ) is an American film by David Butler from 1936, which is based on the children's book of the same name by Laura E. Richards .

Helen Mason was abandoned by her parents. As a foundling , she is found and raised by the beacon keeper Captain January. Since Captain January did not adopt her and Helen did not attend school, officer Agatha Morgan became aware of her and tried to separate Helen "Star" Mason and January. Since Captain January has lost his job in the meantime, Captain Nazro helps him by bringing Helen to Boston. There she learns that her wealthy uncle and his wife have bought a yacht and hire Captain January as the helmsman . The widow Eliza Croft, Captain Nazro, Robert and his assistants are hired as additional crew members.
