Jerzy Lewi (born April 22, 1949 in Breslau , † October 30, 1972 in Lund ) was a Polish chess master .

Levi was one of the greatest talents in Polish chess. From 1965 to 1969 he won the Polish youth championship five times in a row. In 1967 he was third at the European Youth Championships in Groningen after Anatoli Karpow and András Adorján , but before Jan Timman . This was the greatest success of a Polish youth player in the 1960s, while Lewi could not win a promising position against Karpow, which would have meant an even higher place.

In 1969 Lewi won the Polish championship in Lublin and thus qualified for the zone tournament in Athens in the same year. After the tournament, in which he took a lower rank, he did not return to Poland, but settled in Sweden, where he began studying mathematics and took part in tournaments of the leading Swedish chess players. In Poland, Lewis name came up on the censorship index and was not allowed to be mentioned for several years. Lewi died in 1972 at the age of 23 in a car accident.
