Yesh Atid ( Hebrew יש עתיד, German  "There is a future" ) is a liberal party in Israel . The party was founded in April 2012 by the former TV journalist Jair Lapid , the son of the former Schinui politician and Israeli Justice Minister Josef "Tommy" Lapid .

The party program intends to focus on addressing problems in "civil" policy areas, including those of education, housing and health care. In addition, there is a demand to extend general conscription to include Kharedi (“ ultra-Orthodox ”) yeshiva students who were previously exempt from military service. With regard to the Middle East conflict, the party is striving for a two-state solution, with a demilitarized Palestinian state alongside a Jewish state of Israel. The settlement blocs should remain part of Israel, a right of return for the Palestinians is not recognized, and Jerusalem should remain the united capital of Israel.

In the election for the Knesset on January 22, 2013 , the party was the second largest party with 19 seats.

On March 15, 2013, the coalition agreement was signed, with Lapid receiving the office of finance minister. On December 2, 2014, Jair Lapid was sacked by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , which led to early elections .

In the Knesset election on March 17, 2015 , Yesch Atid lost around 5.5 percentage points and only had 11 seats. After that, referring to his role in the opposition, Yesch Atid rose again in the electorate by 2017 and, according to surveys, would have won the second-most seats behind the Likud bloc in the next Knesset election . Against this background, the party chairman Jair Lapid was sometimes given the opportunity to become prime minister .

Jair Lapid and Benny Gantz ( Chosen LeJisra'el ) announced on February 21, 2019 the formation of a joint electoral list of their parties for the early elections to the 21st Knesset on April 9, 2019 with the name Kachol Lavan . In the event of an election victory, they wanted to take turns as prime ministers. For the electoral alliance , alongside Mosche Jaalon and Gabi Aschkenasi , the former minister of social affairs Meir Cohen and Avi Nissenkorn , former chairman of the trade union umbrella organization Histadrut , were on the top list.

Because of Benny Gantz's intention to enter a government led by Benjamin Netanyahu , the Kachol-Lavan faction split in the Knesset on March 29, 2020. Thirteen MPs from Yesh Atid and three Telem MPs formed a 16-seat parliamentary group under the name Yesh Atid-Telem . This refuses to work with Netanyahu. The Chosen LeJisra'el Group of 15 MEPs kept the name Kachol Lavan.
