Jessy Martens (born 1987 in Hamburg ) is a German blues rock singer who has been performing with her own band since 2010.

Life

As a child, Jessy Martens danced and sang. She sang with Rolf Zuckowski , in gospel choirs and in bands. She attended music school and trained in singing and acting. She dropped out of school before graduation to become a professional singer. At a concert she met Jan Fischer, who played the blues with his band . Jessy sang to him spontaneously, and they've worked together ever since.

In 2007 the album That's Why I'm Crying by Jessy Martens & Jan Fischer's Blues Support was released, in 2009 Live on Stage , both mostly with cover songs . The album Live at BluesBaltica from 2011 was already running under the name Jessy Martens & Band, but still consisted mostly of cover songs . With Brand New Ride , also released in 2011, there was a change to own material. Break Your Curse followed in 2013, followed by the live album Touch My Blues Away in 2015 - live at Downtown Bluesclub .

The album Tricky Thing was released on September 29, 2017 .

In January 2020 she sang cover versions of Child in Time and Knockin 'on Heaven's Door at the funeral service of actor Jan Fedder in the main church Sankt Michaelis in Hamburg .

Awards

In 2012, Jessy Martens and her band won the German Rock Prize for best rock singer and best rock band and the German Blues Awards for best blues band and best blues singer. In addition, her album Brand New Ride was named the best blues album of the year. In 2014 they won two German Blues Awards for best singer and best band; they also won the German Blues Challenge .
