The Jester Rock (from English jester , jester , joker, jester ) is a small and isolated cliff rock in the north of Marguerite Bay off the west coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . In the group of the Dion Islands, it lies halfway between Emperor Island and the Noble Rocks .
The Dion Islands were discovered and roughly mapped in 1909 during the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908–1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . This rock was measured in 1948 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it on March 31, 1955 in the context of Emperor Island (English for Kaiserinsel ).
