Yevgeny Alexandrovich Gnedin
Yevgeny Alexandrowitsch Gnedin ( Russian Евгений Александрович Гнедин ; born November 29, 1898 in Dresden , † August 14, 1983 in Moscow ) was a Soviet journalist and diplomat .
Life
Gnedin was a son of the Russian revolutionary Alexander Parvus (actually Israil Lasarewitsch Helphand). In the 1920s he held various diplomatic posts. In 1935 he was appointed First Secretary at the Soviet Embassy in Berlin . He later headed the press department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow. He was arrested and tortured in 1939 and sentenced to ten years in a camp in 1941. After Stalin's death, Gnedin was rehabilitated and re-admitted to the CPSU . In 1979 he left the party and died in Moscow in 1983.
Gnedin's wife Nadezhda Markovna Gnedina (1905–1991) was a writer and translator. His daughter Tatiana Evgenjewna Gnedina (* 1924) is a physicist and science fiction author.
