Jiří Hoskovec

Jiří Hoskovec (born February 19, 1933 in Aussig ; † July 11, 2011 in Prague ) was a Czech psychologist. His specialties were traffic psychology and history of psychology.

Life

In 1956 he worked at the Diagnostic Center for Children, Dobřichovice and from 1956 to 1960 at the Research Institute for Occupational Safety, Prague. Between 1960 and 1965 he worked at the Psychological Institute of Charles University , Prague. In 1965 he moved to Bethlehem University, Pennsylvania, USA and the following year to Stanford University, California, USA. Between 1968 and 1969 he worked at the Traffic Psychology Institute of KfV, Vienna. From 1972 until his retirement in 1998 he worked at the Chair of Psychology at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University, Prague. In 1991 he had a lectureship and in 1995 a professorship at the Charles University in Prague. He is the author or co-author of 36 books and specialist articles in the field of general and applied psychology. Through international cooperation and study visits, he integrated western and eastern trends in psychology. He was editor-in-chief of the journal “Československá psychologie” (Czechoslovakian Psychology) and co-editor of other psychological journals in various countries.
