Jiří Lerch (born October 17, 1971 in České Budějovice ) is a former Czech football player .

Career

Jiří Lerch started playing football at Dynamo České Budějovice at the age of six . Even as a junior player, he had contact with Slavia Prague , to which he was to move in 1992. Initially, however, Lerch joined Dukla Prague in 1990 to do his military service . At the age of 17 he made his debut in the men's division for the then second division club Dynamo České Budějovice. For the 1991/92 season he returned to Dynamo, which just managed to stay up as a climber. Lerch, who was still playing in midfield at the time, played 27 games and scored four goals for České Budějovice. That season, his brother Zbyněk also played for Dynamo.

In 1992, after signing a preliminary contract there, Lerch moved to Slavia Prague, where he stayed until the end of his career in 2002. With Slavia Lerch became Czech champions in 1996 and made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup . In 1997 and 1999 he celebrated winning the Czech Cup with the team . At Slavia the midfielder became a defender who could be used in almost any defensive position.

Lerch made his debut in the Czech national dress on May 8, 1995 in Bratislava , the Czech team drew 1-1 with the Slovak team . In the squad he was then called up more often and hoped to participate in the 1996 European Championship in England . It shouldn't be enough for Lerch, who had his second appearance at the rather insignificant King Hassan II Cup in Casablanca on December 11, 1996. He played 41 minutes in the game that the Czech team won 2-1 against Nigeria . Around two months later, on February 26, 1997, Lerch played his third and last international match. In the second half of the encounter with Belarus he came on the field for Radoslav Látal .

In 1998 he had the opportunity to move to FC Tirol Innsbruck , whose coach at that time was the master coach of Slavia Braies, František Cipro . Everything was agreed, but at the last moment Slavia demanded a much higher transfer fee than had originally been agreed, whereupon Tirol Innsbruck withdrew from the transfer.

From the 2000/01 season plagued Jiří Lerch big problems with his Achilles tendon , he only played nine league games. He tried to come back the following season, but the injury was too big. He ended his career in the winter of 2001/02.

After his professional career Lerch ran a restaurant in Psáry not far from Prague and played for Rapid Psáry in the lowest league.
