Jiří Marek

Jiří Marek (born May 30, 1914 in Prague ; † December 10, 1994 there ; real name Josef Jiří Puchwein ) was a Czech writer .

Life

Marek studied the Czech and German languages at Charles University in Prague until 1938 . After the war he joined the Communist Party , initially worked as a teacher in Strakonice , Soběslav , Nachod and Prague, and since 1948 has been writing for the daily newspaper Volkszeitung and the party organ of the communists, Red Law . He later headed the magazine Welt der Soviets ( Svět sovětů ) as editor-in-chief . From 1954 to 1959 he was director of the state film and from 1961 to 1982 he lectured at Prague universities.

Works

Marek mainly wrote socio-psychological novels, most of which initially took place during the Second World War and later dealt with reconstruction (stories from the mining environment). But he became known for his crime stories, which are about people in Prague. In addition, he published adventure and children's books, fairy tales and wrote scripts for television games and films.
