A Jibi branch in Westerenger ( Herford district )

The Jibi Handel GmbH & Co. was a supermarket chain with about 100 stores within about 150 km around the headquarters Bielefeld . The most important competitors include Rewe , Edeka and discount grocery stores such as Lidl and Aldi .

history

The company was founded in 1962 by the Jittenmeier family in Bielefeld. The company name (company) is an acronym made up of family name and company headquarters.

The company's founder and sole limited partner Wilhelm Jittenmeier transferred his share of the business to his children Lothar Jittenmeier, Claudia König, Petra Budde and Kathrin Jandrey with effect from January 1, 2008. Thomas Budde was the sole managing director since January 1, 2008.

With effect from January 1, 2015, Jibi, with its 88 locations, administration and 2,400 employees, was taken over by the Bünting Group after the Federal Cartel Office had given its approval. Jibi was previously a trading partner of Bünting. In contrast to Mini Price , Jibi remains independent.

In the meantime, a renaming of the Jibi stores to Combi supermarkets has been announced and has already been partially implemented.

By the end of 2016, the renaming of the then 86 branches and thus the discontinuation of the use of the Jibi brand should have been completed. At the end of April 2020, the re-flagging of all former Jibi stores will be completed.
