Jigalong is a municipality in the Australian state of Western Australia in the Pilbara region with just over 300 inhabitants. The place is about 165 kilometers east of Newman in the western part of the Small Sand Desert .

history

Jigalong was established in 1907 as the residence for the workers employed in the construction of the State Barrier Fence of Western Australia . After temporary use as a camel breeding station, the area was made available to the Apostolic Church in 1947 for the establishment of a mission with an Aboriginal congregation. After the return of ownership to the Australian government in 1969, the area of ​​the place was given to the indigenous people.
