Jill Paton Walsh

Jill Paton Walsh , CBE (* 29. April 1937 in London as Gillian Bliss , † before 20 October 2020) was a British writer .

Life

Gillian Bliss attended St. Michael's Convent School in North Finchley , London . She studied English Literature at St Anne's College of Oxford University .

In 1961 she married Antony Paton Walsh, from whom they later separated. The marriage resulted in a son and two daughters. In 2004 she married the children's author John Rowe Townsend . Her brother is the economist Christopher John Emile Bliss , who was professor at Oxford from 1992-2007.

Paton Walsh first became known for her children's books, for which she won several prestigious awards. Later she moved more and more to adult books, including detective novels about the amateur detective Imogen Quy, a nurse at (fictional) St. Agatha's College at the University of Cambridge . She was chosen by the heirs of Dorothy L. Sayers to complete the unfinished final crime novel of the legendary series about Lord Peter Wimsey . She later published three more novels about Lord Peter.

Paton Walsh lived in Cambridge after long living in Richmond, Surrey. She died in October 2020 at the age of 83.
