Michael James Morahan (born December 26, 1902 in London , United Kingdom , † summer 1976 in Sudbury ) was a British film architect .

Life

Michael James Morahan, the older brother of the film architect Tom Morahan , had received his professional training at the City & Guilds of London School of Arts and joined the film industry in 1933. His first employer was the production company London Films. Until 1945, Morahan was limited to the work of an architectural assistant.

From the end of World War II, Morahan was involved in numerous top productions at Ealing Studios , including the historical melodrama Königsliebe , the expedition biography Scott's Last Voyage and the classic comedies The Whiskey Ship , The Man in the White Suit , Oller Kahn with megalomania and Ladykillers . The directors Basil Dearden and Alexander Mackendrick in particular used Morahan's designs again and again. Morahan was nominated for an Oscar in 1950 for his design for love of the king .

From the mid-50s, when he switched to EMI , his oeuvre flattened. Jim Morahan's best late works include the burlesque flying comedy The daredevil men in their flying boxes and the atmospherically dense horror story The Witch Hunter , his last work. James Morahan died in the third quarter of 1976.
