James "Jim" Rutherford (born 1st quarter 1894 in Bedlington , † 1924 ) was an English football player .
Career
Jim Rutherford joined Brighton & Hove Albion in August 1920 as a trial player from Ashington AFC of the Northern Alliance . In the same month, the club, which participated in the premier season of the Football League Third Division , also signed his brother Jack . After registering as a professional in the Football League in September 1920, he initially played for the reserve team. In late November 1920 Rutherford made his league debut against Swansea Town , in which he played Wally Littlein the position of left defender, and was part of the regular team for the remainder of the season. In total, he came to 26 league and three FA Cup appearances when Brighton finished the season in 18th place in the 24-team league.
With the commitment of Jack Feebery in the summer of 1921, he lost his place in the team and played exclusively for the reserve team in the 1921/22 season. In September 1922 Rutherford left Brighton & Hove Albion and emigrated to the United States , where he was active as a player and coach, but died two years later.
