George Thomas Leonard Ansell (born November 28, 1909 in Worthing , † October 7, 1988 in Stafford ) was an English football player .
Career
Ansell came to Oxford in 1927 and studied classical philology at Jesus College for four years. In the years 1929 to 1931 he played as a striker three times in a row for Oxford University AFC in the varsity match against Cambridge University AFC . During this time he also played for the famous amateur team Corinthians FC , for which he scored 12 goals in 22 appearances and was part of the squad on a tour to Switzerland in April 1930. In addition, he was - as an amateur there were almost no restrictions on his eligibility to play - active for the club in his hometown FC Worthing . For Worthing, Ansell scored both goals in the final against Southwick FC when winning the Sussex Senior Cup in 1929 .
In 1930 Ansell, who could be called up as a half or center forward , came as an amateur to Brighton & Hove Albion , in August 1931 he was registered as a professional. His debut in the Football League Third Division South in April 1932 against Gillingham FC followed in the 1932/33 season five more appearances in the league and an appearance in the qualifying round of the FA Cup , where he scored a goal in both competitions. In April 1933 he left Brighton and took a job as a teacher in Scarborough . At the end of the 1935/36 season he appeared again in the Football League when he played four games for Norwich City in the Football League Second Division and remained undefeated. As a result, he was active in amateur football for Kimbolton Town and the Eynesbury Rovers until after World War II and was a teacher at the Kimbolton School in Huntingdonshire until his retirement in 1969 .
