James Williams "Jim" Wade (born February 10, 1947 , † November 29, 2020 in Plainview , Texas ) was an American basketball player who played for 1. FC Bamberg in the basketball division .

career

Wade was stationed as a soldier on a US base in Germany, from 1969 he played for 1. FC 01 Bambergand was a decisive man in the promotion to the basketball league in 1970. His military obligations often led the Bambergers to uncertainty before games as to whether the American would be able to participate, as his profession had priority. Even after his promotion to the Bundesliga, the 1.93-meter-tall American was the team's leading player in the top German division. 1971 ended his service in the US Army, but he did not return to his home country, but stayed in Bamberg. In the 1971/72 season he was the most successful basket scorer in the Bundesliga with 485 points scored in the main and final round. In the course of the game year he set a new Bundesliga record with 45 points in one game. Wade was the best Bamberg basket shooter in the Bundesliga seasons 1970/71, 1971/72, 1972/73 and 1973/74.

He was described as a man with great charisma and a strong long-range shooter with an idiosyncratic throwing technique and weaknesses in defense. The American played a special role in the Bamberg team and sometimes disregarded instructions. In 1976 Wade, who had increasingly had knee problems, ended his basketball career after seven years in Bamberg and was honored with a farewell game. After the end of his career, the American, who was known as a music lover, initially stayed in Bamberg and ran a restaurant called “Wades Star-Disco”. He later moved back to his home country and lived in the state of Texas. He worked in the city administration. Wade had kidney disease, and due to a knee ailment, he was dependent on a wheelchair in old age.
