James "Jimmy" Patrick Anthony Dore (born July 26, 1965 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American comedian and political commentator.

Life and activity

Dore was born the twelfth child of a Catholic family of Irish-Polish descent in Chicago. After attending Columbia College in Chicago, he began working as a freelance stand-up comedian in 1989. He has cited George Carlin and Bill Hicks as his role models .

In the 1990s and 2000s, Dore appeared primarily as a comedian in clubs, but also appeared more frequently in entertainment programs on US television's late-night programs, such as Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn on CBS, and Late Friday on NBC. In the United States, it has been customary since the 1960s for late night comedy talk programs to include segments of several minutes in many episodes in the course of the episode, in addition to guests with whom the host sits down to conduct informal interviews , during which a comedian appears as a guest and presents an excerpt from his current routine. The increased popularity that Dore gained in this way led to the fact that the specialty channel Comedy Central dedicated a half-hour special to him in the series "Comedy Central Presents", in which he was able to perform a larger section of his repertoire in front of a television audience. The program aired on April 9, 2004. In 2007, the one-hour show "Citizen Jimmy" followed, a one-hour show that was awarded the best stand-up special of 2008 on the iTunes platform.

During the presidency of George W. Bush, Dore began as a staunch opponent of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 to become more politically active and to work as an activist. Around 2007 he started a broadcast on the Internet entitled And Everything Else , which offered a humorous, ironic-critical view of current political and social events in the United States. In June 2009, Dore converted this show into a weekly hour-long comedy show entitled "The Jimmy Dore Show," originally broadcast by KPFK 90.7 FM Los Angeles and currently (2018) nationwide on the Pacifica Radio Network and online -Network TYT Network is distributed via platforms such as Youtube. The Jimmy Dore Show, after receiving rather moderate attention in the first few years of its existence, has seen a considerable increase in popularity, especially since the summer of 2016, so that it currently has around 400,000 subscribers on Youtube and several million views of its segments per month.

Like the previous show, the Jimmy Dore Show also offers a critical, humorous discussion of current affairs, with Dore and two co-presenters (mostly Dore's wife Stefanie Zamorano and comedian Ron Placone) and occasionally one or two guests, comment on the most important events of the past few days. The show currently consists of a two-hour live show broadcast on Saturday afternoon (Californian time), as well as various segments of varying lengths (some excerpts from the live broadcast, some original material produced on other occasions) scattered over the week.

In terms of content, both the political and social issues that are currently in the focus of the attention of the major media, as well as niche topics from these areas, which are not dealt with at all or only to a limited extent, are discussed in Dore's broadcast. In addition, a large part of the program is used on media meta-analyzes, i. H. Dore and his co-hosts and guests examine and comment on the way certain topics are being addressed by the major American media groups - notably the cable news networks CNN and MSNBC, the news departments of the three major broadcasters ABC, CBS and NBC, the major American daily newspapers and online news platforms - are dealt with (or in which topics are deliberately marginalized or completely suppressed by the major media) in order to show, in their opinion, existing biases in the reporting of the outlets concerned . As a staunch leftist, Dore defends the thesis that the big media in their reporting of the financial interests of their parent companies (e.g. in the case of CNN Time Warner and in the case of MSNBC General Electric or Comcast ), their sponsors ( So for example in the case of the show Meet the Press "the armaments company Boeing " and its advertisers (which are mostly pharmaceutical and insurance companies, armaments manufacturers and companies in the petrochemical industry) are influenced, with the result that they left Politicians and programs systematically marginalize, ignore or put them in a negative light, while they are favored in their reporting by exponents of conservative positions and corresponding political programs. Accordingly, mostly only people as moderators, interview or panel guests are targeted in the programs of the big ones Media company incorporated, which is an establishment bi as , a bias in favor of the politico-economic interests of the upper class and the media-owning corporations. Well-known politicians, journalists or political activists often appear as guests in Dore's show or are switched to the show via Skype for interviews. So Dore u. a. the former governor Jesse Ventura , the journalist Glenn Greenwald and the CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou as guests for his show.

Dor's political positions are located on the left end of the American political spectrum. He advocates an expansion of the health insurance program for seniors, Medicare , to the entire population ( medicare for all ), a considerable reduction in the American state's spending on the military, an end to all or at least most of the foreign missions, an improvement in police training and systematic action against violence emanating from the police and for tax increases for the rich and large corporations. Dore was an emphatic supporter of Bernie Sanders and a staunch critic of Hillary Clinton , whom he condemned as a corrupt and warmongering politician, during the party primaries for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination in 2015/2016 . After Sanders' defeat in the primary campaign, Dore said she voted for the Green Party candidate Jill Stein in the November 2016 presidential election . Both the election campaign process and the electoral process within the Democratic Party during the contest for the presidential nomination of this party (as well as in the competition for the nomination for various seats in the House of Representatives and in the Senate) has scourged Dore as corrupt and manipulated, whereby he is against the regulations and procedural processes as well as active favors or disadvantages of certain candidates by the functionaries of the party apparatus. As a result, since 2017 Dore has repeatedly called on Bernie Sanders, who had been cheated out of the party's presidential nomination (which he would have received in a non-rigged election process after Dore) to give up cooperation with the Democratic Party and instead create a new "third “To found a party. He, Sanders, together with his supporters and like-minded politicians, should establish this as a left alternative alongside the Democrats in order to maintain the position of this party in the medium term - which only nominally but not actually pursues left-wing politics, but an administrator of large companies and their election campaign donors and other financial beneficiaries - take as a large people's party.

In addition to his own show, Dore also hosts the weekly online show Aggressive Progressives , which is distributed by the TYT network through platforms such as Facebook and Youtube. In 2018, after the sudden death of Ed Schultz , Dore also took on the role of moderating the evening news on TV news channel RT America for a week .

In addition to his presence in the media, Dore continues to appear regularly as a stand-up comedian in clubs, casinos and the like. forums, whereby its programs are now also largely dominated by political issues. His most recent special, Sentenced to Live , aired on October 7, 2015.
