Jimmy Nolen

Jimmy Nolen (* 3. April 1934 in Oklahoma City ; † 18th December 1983 in Atlanta ) was an American rhythm and blues and blues - guitarist .

Nolen began his career performing as a teenager under the influence of the music of T-Bone Walker , BB King and Lowell Fulson ; first recordings were made after he moved to California. Nolen also worked on the West Coast with Jimmy Wilson , Chuck Higgins and Johnny Otis , on whose classic Willie and the Hand Jive (1958) he participated. Recordings under his own name were made for the Federal , Elko and Imperial Records labels . In 1965 he began working with James Brown ; the session recorded the first of Brown's number 1 hits Papa's Got a Brand New Bag . In 1970 he left Brown and played with Maceo Parker until his death . He died of a heart attack in Atlanta in December 1983.
