Jimmy O'Bryant
Jimmy O'Bryant (born May 15, 1896 in Arkansas or Louisville (Kentucky) , † June 24, 1928 in Chicago ) was an American clarinetist , alto saxophonist and band leader of Chicago jazz .
O'Bryant, who was often compared to Johnny Dodds , played in 1920/21 with the Tennessee Ten , then in 1923 in a formation with Jelly Roll Morton and WC Handy , in 1924 with King Oliver . From 1923 to 1926 he recorded with Lovie Austins Blues Serenaders , often with Tommy Ladnier as trumpeter, in 1924 with Ida Cox . He also had his own recording sessions for Paramount Records with his Washboard Band ( " Alabamy Bound " ), in which the pianist Jimmy Blythe played. He died in 1928 at the height of his career.
