Jimmy Skidmore
Jimmy Skidmore (born February 8, 1916 in London as James Richard Skidmore , † August 22, 1998 ibid) was an English saxophonist of traditional and mainstream jazz .
Skidmore first played guitar before switching to the tenor saxophone at the age of 20 . In the early 1940s he played with George Shearing at the West London Rhythm Club and the BBC's Radio Rhythm Club Quartet ; he then played with Harry Parry (1942), Carlo Krahmer (1943), Frank Deniz Spirits of Rhythm and Eric Winstone (1944). He then worked with the Vic Lewis - Jack Parnell Jazzmen and Vic Lewis , and then performed with Victor Feldman and Kenny Baker . Between 1956 and 1960 he played with Humphrey Lyttelton . From the 1960s he turned his back on the jazz scene and worked as a publicist and then in a supermarket, but from the 1980s he played again, first with Kathy Stobart , then with his own groups.
His son Alan Skidmore also became a jazz musician and occasionally performed with him.
