Harry Owen Parry (* 22. January 1922 in Bangor , Wales , † 18 October 1956 in London ) was a British jazz - clarinetist and bandleader.

Live and act

Harry Parry played the cornet, tenor horn, flugelhorn, drums and violin as a child; In 1927 he began to play the clarinet and saxophone. After moving to London in 1932, he first played in various dance bands, such as Percival Mackey , then led his own sextet. In 1940 he had a longer engagement at the St. Regis Hotel and was finally asked to lead a band for their Radio Rhythm Club show by the BBC . With his sextet he recorded over 100 pieces for Parlophone , on which Cab Kaye , George Shearing , Jimmy Skidmore and Doreen Villiers also participated. After the end of the Second World War he worked full-time for radio and television, including as a disc jockey . In the late 1940s and 1950s he toured the world. Stylistically, Parry's music was close to Benny Goodman .
