Nikolai Petrovich Batalov ( Russian Николай Петрович Баталов ; born November 24 . Jul / 6. December  1899 greg. In Moscow ; † 10. November 1937 ) was a Russian actor.

biography

In 1916 Batalow began acting training in the 2nd studio of the Moscow Art Theater ; In 1924 he became a member of the ensemble and played the first important role as Figaro in Beaumarchais ' theatrical comedy .

He made his film debut in Protasanov's film adaptation of Alexei Tolstoy's Aelita (1924) as Red Army soldier Gussew. Batalow's best-known film work is the lead role of Pawel Vlasow in Pudovkin's The Mother (1926). He also appeared in Der Weg ins Leben (1931), the first Soviet talky film .

His style of play is characterized by realism and the warm depiction of powerful characters. Batalow was named an Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1933 .

He had suffered from tuberculosis since the late 1920s and died at the age of only 37 despite receiving several medical treatments. He was married to the well-known stage actress Olga Androvskaya . Their daughter Svetlana Batalowa also became an actress.
