The Jin class is the NATO designation for the Type 094 class of nuclear-powered strategic submarines (SSBN) of the Navy of the People's Republic of China .

As the successor to the Type 092 ( Xia class ), it is larger and should contain modern technology from the SSN Type 093.

description

The boats have an elongated tower in the front third of the boat with side-mounted depth rudders. From around the first third of the tower, a structure similar to a turtle shell rises on the middle part of the boat. This structure contains two rows of six submarine-launched ballistic missiles of the type JL-2 ( NATO designation: CSS-N-14 ). The fuselage probably also contains six 533 mm torpedo tubes .

On October 17, 2006, the first boat of this class was sighted at the Xiaopingdao Naval Base . A July 2007 photo showed two of these boats at the Bohai Shipyard in Huludao . It was therefore not possible to say with certainty at the specified time whether this class consists of two or three boats. According to reports from the end of April 2008, however , the People's Liberation Army wants to build at least five of these submarines and put them into service (see Sanya Naval Base ).
