The Jinan Incident , also Tsinan incident called, was an armed conflict on May 3, 1928 between the troops of the Chinese central government under Chiang Kai-shek , the Japanese Army and the Kuomintang - troops in Jinan (Jap. Sainan ) capital the Chinese province of Shandong . It occurred during the Chinese offensive designed as a continuation of the northern campaign to expand control over areas occupied by Japan in order to safeguard its interests in China. Japan then sent troops to protect its citizens and interests.

The forces of the Japanese Army and the Kuomintang met in Jinan and there were several exchanges of fire.

Ten months later, after negotiations between China and Japan, all troops from both parties were withdrawn.
